Another Important Purchase

My living room looks like this:

Garden Diaries: growing!

Man is our garden growing! We got back in town after spending Memorial Day weekend with our families, and the zucchini plants were HUGE!  It's so rewarding seeing all this and just waiting for our veggies to come!

I love my bloomers

   No,  not the undies- these: 

My hydrangeas are blooming! 

They are so freaking pretty I keep clipping them and putting them into vases all over my house.  I think they are in competition with the peony to be my favorite flower! This one hydrangea bush by the deck is huge and has so many blooms on it! 

These bushes are a bright bright blue (I'll post some updated pictures of them fully bloomed!) Until then, here are some shots of the flowers I'm enjoying!

Garden Diaries- Chapter 2: Planting!

We finished this a few weeks ago, but for some reason I have been unmotivated to update the blog.  After digging and pulling all the rocks and weeds out of the garden, we mixed the garden with some top soil, and ummmmm, other good things for the garden. 

We hit the jackpot at home depot, getting everything buy one get one free, and bought the following: 

-Tomatoes (a few different varieties!) 

-Cucumbers

-Watermelon

-Canteloupe

-Strawberries

-Okra

-1 jalapeno pepper

-Zucchini

-Squash

We planted everything, and made sure to water it on those hot hot days.  

It has since blossomed! Our zucchini is taking over a row of the okra, we will be working this weekend on providing posts for the squash, zucchini, and the cucumbers to grow up instead of spreading out.  I'll try to take some updated pictures today to show you guys the difference! I am so excited to get our first veggies!

New Camera

I finally got my new camera that I have been wanting for so long! I got a Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i.  I've been using a film camera for a while, or just a little dinky point and shoot one.  Yesterday afternoon, I was able to take a few pictures with the sunlight, and I am so in love! Here are a few of my favorites so far: 

This is a little flower bush on the side of our house.  The hot pink behind it is the remainder of an azalea bush.

These pink ones are in our neighbors back yard, but I couldn't help but going over there and getting some pictures.

I think this one is my favorite! I'm going to use these purple flowers as artwork in our office!

I love this one too. Love, love, LOVE the macro on this camera!

Spring Flowers

There have been so many pretty Spring flowers blooming around our house- the previous owner sure loved to plant! Enjoy!


The two front trees are dogwoods. One is white and one is a really pretty pink!

There are tulips and daffodils planted everywhere!

We have lots of other plants to look forward to this summer as well! I'm especially excited for there hydrangea bushes to bloom!

Garden Diaries- Chapter 1- digging and digging

We are in the process of planting our first vegetable garden.  We started out my picking the area in the back yard that will see the most direct sunlight.  With a little help from our neighbors who have lived next door for over 30 years, we picked a section in between tree shade and the shadows of the house.  

Our next step was to decide how big the garden will be.  We weren't too sure with this, so we honestly just guessed what size we would like.  This is something that can always be made bigger.  Our neighbors were so helpful, they were giving us tips We sprayed the ground with red spray paint to determine where the outline would be.  

We then borrowed our neighbors digger machine (no idea what this thing is called) and started digging, or moving the machine. You know, same thing.  Here it is after going through the process once: 

 

We then sorted out all of the rocks and clumps of grass and old bulbs from the tulips and other plants that were in a little garden there. 


We've mixed in some different soils, etc. and are preparing for the planting stages! Next Steps to come!

Spring Surprises

 When we first moved in, all of our neighbors told us how wonderful  Mrs. R (the cute old lady that owned our house before us) kept the gardens.  More than one person has told me that they love to drive past our house just to look at the pretty gardens.  What?! Our garden- our house? Where the flower beds look like this...

 Yes, those are fake flowers stuck into the pots and the ground.  And little ducks, hens, and Mary's all along the way.  Plus... See all that GRASS? The flower beds are FULL of grass. 

BUT recently, our grass-filled flower beds are starting to spring beautiful little purple flowers! And, the beginnings of what looks like daffidils and tulips! What a wonderful surprise! We can't wait to see how it will all look once fully bloomed!
